#31 Terry Hershey: Black Eyes and Blue Suits-Life Doesn’t Follow a Script

April 19, 2017 by Charlie Hedges − 2 Comments

I’m visiting today with our podcast friend, Terry Hershey. If you’re a regular listener of The Next Chapter with Charlie then you’re familiar with our guest Terry Hershey, who is a regular guest on the show. Terry is a prolific writer, conference keynote speaker, renowned landscape architect, and spiritual advisor.

Today Terry and I will chat about how life and change in life come with no script. No matter how well we plan, life always seems to have its own plans without any deference to our well-planned and tidy existence.

This past weekend Terry experienced an extremely painful “change of plan.” He fell, bled all over hotel floor, passed out and woke up in an emergency room. That definitely was not part of his plan for the evening. He wrote all about it in a Sabbath Moment post called “Black Eyes and Blessings.”

Terry tells writes, “I’m not sure that life is about tidiness. Maybe life happens when it’s not tidy. When it doesn’t make sense. So here’s what I believe. If I need my life to be tidy, I’m not available to receive a blessing.”

In Terry’s view, “The “messiness” of life can be a blessing in disguise.”

  1. Wow! But what if you lost your script years ago and have been struggling to rewrite it ever since but can’t because you’re too busy cleaning up all of the messiness of life?

    1. Yvonne. You just might be where you are supposed to be. Messiness can be the birth of blessing. Sometimes it only requires a change in Perspective. I pray it will come to you. You’re the best!
